Jennifer was called to the Bar in 2003 after working as a case worker in the Student Law Office at Northumbria University providing free legal advice to the public (where one of her cases involved a successful appeal to the Court of Appeal) and as the Treasury Solicitor with a case load involving Prison Law and Judicial Review.
Jennifer has a predominantly criminal practice and undertakes a mix of Prosecution and Defence work. She has been led in the prosecution of an historical rape case which resulted in a 15 year sentence for the defendant.
Additionally, she has acted as Independent Counsel for Legal Professional Privilege (LLP) matters.
Jennifer has appeared before the Court of Appeal on a number of occasions and one case involved legal argument on the definition of “benefit” under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.
Jennifer is a member of the Prison Law team and regularly represents prisoners throughout the country in a wide range of hearings involving the Parole Board. She also undertakes adjudication hearings and advises on all Prison Law matters such as challenging the decisions of the Parole Board.
Jennifer has also prosecuted a significant amount on behalf of HM Revenue and Customs ranging from Cash Detention and Forfeiture Applications, VAT and Duties Tribunal Appeals and Condemnation hearings. She leads the Revenue and Customs Group within Chambers.
Jennifer undertakes Personal Injury work and has represented and advised in both small claims and fast track cases ranging form accidents at work to public liability cases. She has also represented numerous clients at hearing under the Licensing Act 2003.
